Pre-Hospital Paediatric Life Support (PHPLS)
The PHPLS course is delivered by BASICS Scotland and accredited by Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG). It provides the knowledge and practical procedures necessary for assessment and effective treatment of pre-hospital childhood emergencies.
Teaching hours
20 hours plus pre-course learning
Pre-Requisite
Expected competencies prior to starting the course:
- Be a practising and registered Health Care Professional (Dr, Nurse, Paramedic)
- Basic Life support including CPR and AED use
- Have completed a manual handling course.
Cost
NHS Scotland employees are eligible to apply for a subsided place, the costs of this is £360.00. The fee for non NHS Scotland clinicians is £1,025.00
Assessment and certification
Assessment is continuous and takes place throughout the 2.5- day course. If you are successful, PHPLS certification is valid for four years and includes access to ALSG’s VLE.
Candidate criteria and eligibility
The Pre-Hospital Paediatric Life Support programme’s objective is to improve the emergency care of children, concentrating on the initial critical minutes prior to arriving at hospital and is suitable for those from the following backgrounds:
- Medical
- Paramedic
- Nursing
Recertification
Either complete the PHPLS assessment sessions, or repeat the full PHPLS course.
